Salient Features of Sardar Sarovar Project
  

Benefits of Sardar Sarovar Project:

The major benefits of the project are as follows :

  • The SSP would provide assured irrigation to 1.8 Million ha. (4.45 million Acre) in Gujarat and 75,000 ha. (185 thousand Acre) in the Barmer and Jalore districts of Rajasthan.
  • The Narmada River water estimated at 28 MAF – (Million Acre Feet 1200 billion liters) annually, is to be shared, with Madhya Pradesh receiving 18.25 MAF, Gujarat receiving 9 MAF., Rajasthan receiving 0.5 MAF and Maharashtra receiving 0.25 MAF.
  • 1450 MW power generated at the Sardar Sarovar dam is to be shared, with Madhya Pradesh receiving 57%, Maharashtra receiving 27% and Gujarat receiving 16%.

 

Additional Benefits:

  • 8215 villages and 135 towns in Saurashtra, North Gujarat and Kutch and 131 villages in Barmer and Jalore districts in Rajasthan would get drinking water.

Interim benefits at MDDL of 110.64 m:

Irrigation
50,000 ha immediate upto 48 Km. 2,50,000 ha by December, 1999 in Phase-1 of Narmada Canal (Up to Km 144.5)

Power :
Monsoon 3 Units of RBPH can be run for 4 months to deliver 138 MW each using 220 cumec. Per unit.

Non-Monsoon 1 unit of RBPH can be run to generate 138 MW. Alternately 2 Units of CHPH can be run to generate 18.5 MW each if irrigation releases are to be made using 118 cumec per unit.
